Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
Last night at Southland Greyhound Park and Casino, at a 1/2NL table after multiple hands of two people openly stating what cards they have and checking the hands down, the lady says...
"I never bet with two people in a hand. Three people in a hand, of course, but with only two people in the hand, its just stupid. No one ever wins when there are only two people. The only winner is the casino." I had to cover my face before I LOL'd. |

Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
ROF! Amazing thread. I've been told before at the casino by the old fogeys who have played the game for 50-60 years and still can't play good that it is impolite to be bluffing. I just kinda laugh and ignore the idiocy.
Also, about a month ago at the casino I overheard a guy rambling about poker before the start of a donkament. He said something like, "mate, if i ever have an open ender on the flop or turn there is no chance i'm folding that". I almost piped up and told him he's an idiot, but I think it is better for the fishies to learn the hard way. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I am not convinced that the optimal strategy would be calling and going all-in on the river if lady doesn't improve. I didn't see anything bad with going all-in on the turn. Comments anyone? [/ QUOTE ] Obviously it depends what she does on the turn. However I think that calling is clearly a better play than raising all in on the flop since its painfully obvious that the woman intends to call all in on this hand no matter what. [/ QUOTE ] I hate to promote strategy talk in what's been the most-enjoyable thread of the month, but AK vs. AT on Axx flop...AT flips her hand face-up and will call no matter what I bet? [cellphone]"Honey...can we take out a second mortgage before this woman calls the clock on me?"[/cellphone] If you wouldn't push here...either I missed something or you hate moneys. [/ QUOTE ] Shes going to call you AT ANY POINT IN THE HAND. YOu have position. Why would it not be beneficial to see what comes on the turn/river before committing yourself? |

Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
I have 2 favourites:
1 - "I think that if cards are worth playing for $5 preflop they're worth playing for $500!" This old guy genuinely meant that a hand was either playable or unplayable, with no regard to betting amounts. 2 - Listening to a guy earnestly explaining to the attractive woman next to him how and why the chance of hitting a draw varies depending on how many people dealt into the hand. Classic. |

[ QUOTE ] I was trying to tell him how he was wrong, but he didnt believe me. [/ QUOTE ] Well at least you tried. Whatever happens, make sure you keep on top of your crusade to educate the fish. While you were at it, did you give him your wallet, and let him [censored] your wife? [/ QUOTE ] QFT! I almost fell off my chair laughing at that one! BAHA! |

Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
Today at the Mirage Poker Showdown $2500+100 NLHE event first level:
"I folded queens pre-flop knowing that they were the best hand because I didn't want to be up against some hand like AJ." None of us asked for further explanation. He busted fhortly thereafter with some goofy POS pre-flop like 85o. Yes, they even say that [censored] in high stakes settings. Loving this thread. Devo |

Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
I'm taking a couple days off. The worst part is it, it came after one of my best sessions, where I was making more than $100/hr - playing 4/8!
