Spin-off: Poker etiquette and speaking up at showdown
Two people replied to another post of mine and this came up: Is it OK to speak up when the "winning" hand didn't really win at showdown, with tabled cards, even when the dealer is involved and you are not in the hand?
Two posters here said yes, you can and should speak up. One of my friends said it's between the players and the dealer and to keep your mouth shut if you are not in the hand. Which is correct etiquette in a B&M room? |

Re: Spin-off: Poker etiquette and speaking up at showdown
Technically, if both players tabled their cards (meaning they put their cards face up on the table for all to see) then the best hand wins and anyone can speak up. Etiquette doesn't play a role in this.
Personally, I don't like to get involved in decisions when I am not involved in a hand. It's just something that over the years I have come to do. I'll wait for someone else at the table to speak up but if they don't then I will say something to the dealer to make sure that the winning player gets their money. |

Re: Spin-off: Poker etiquette and speaking up at showdown
Generally, stay out of it and let players/dealers/floor handle it is a good rule of thumb.
But if you clearly see two tabled hands and the losing hand is being pushed the pot, I would probably say something. |

Re: Spin-off: Poker etiquette and speaking up at showdown
If you see anything that the dealer should catch, you should speak up.
Pot being pushed to wrong player. Player did not call the last bet (stop the dealer from burning and turning). etc. It is in everybody's interest that the game is run correctly. A dealer is not supposed to look in a player's untabled hand and tell him what to do, so you should not either (referencing another thread). |
