Re: SOUL thread. give it to me.
Don't really have anything to add but this summer at Bonnaroo I saw Cold War Kids cover "A Change Is Gonna Come". Pretty cool.

Re: SOUL thread. give it to me.
I love Stax records. This thread is a great idea.
I must say, my favorite rendition of the Tennessee Waltz (great song) is by the incomparable Norah Jones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IquT_zm2O7M |

Bring it on Home - my favorite Sam Cooke. [/ QUOTE ] Great choice. Lou Rawls does a great job in the background on that one too. I also strongly recommend A Change Gonna Come This thread needs much more Otis Redding. Speaking of someone who died way before his time, he was killed at 26 in a plane crash. We missed out on some great, great music. I've Been Loving You These Arms of Mine That's How Strong My Love Is Try a Little Tenderness |

Solomon Burke is great, but I have problems finding much good stuff on YouTube to share. There is a ton of live stuff, but I prefer his studio work.

Not quite sure if this is classed as soul, but worth mentioning anyway -
Bobby Womack - Across 110th Street Man, Tarantino films have introduced me to some really great songs. |

Bring it on Home - my favorite Sam Cooke. [/ QUOTE ] this and This Little Light of Mine are my two favorite Sam Cooke songs. I like everything he did, but i like the gritty edge you get from his live tracks (and the songs targeted toward the black audience) versus the smooth Sam that you got on the radio (cupid, chain gang, etc) |

Re: SOUL thread. give it to me.
Yes, Sam Cooke is definitely the King of Soul.
Love Donny Hathaway too. Best "new" soul is without a doubt D'angelo: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DMb8BhCXN...ed&search= There are several clips on Youtube but I used that because David Sanborn is also the man http://youtube.com/watch?v=8fNtipp5RLs That's my favorite D'angelo song, produced by DJ Premier R. Kelly is a total hack compared to this guy, but hey, I guess he didn't get fat and burn out on drugs... |
