Default Grand Casino Hinckley - Poker Rate?

I am headed to northern MN for fishing this weekend and considering spending Saturday night playing poker at Grand Casino Hinckley. As little as I know about spread limit, I am going to give the higher limit games there a shot. That is, unless they have a limit game going somewhere in the 8/16 – 15/30 range (no idea if they even spread that high).

I called about a room and they seem a bit pricey (>$100). Has anyone tried to get a room comped or at least a poker rate there? Again, no idea if they do that, but thought I would ask before I pay an arm and a leg.

Any insight is appreciated.

Hey I was just up there last Friday and Saturday.
I have no idea about a poker room rate but I payed $75 to stay at the Grand Hinckley Inn right across from the casino.
They don't have any higher fixed limits as it is usually either 2-10 or 5-30 spread limit. I played the 2-10 spread and found it pretty fishy.

If you like NL tourneys they have a good one on Saturdays at 2PM. $170 gets you 10K in chips and the structure is about the same as Canterbury Park tourneys. CP tourneys have 30 min levels and the levels at Hinckley are only 20 min but I think the Hinckley one is a better overall tourney because you start with 10k compared to CP's 4k.

I've never seen anything above 4/8 LHE. It depends which spread game they have going. The 2/10 plays a little like the 8/16 at Canterbury. Patience is a virtue. The 5/60 is naked aggression and usually plays "deep". If the Cowboy or Russian are playing, buckle up, it's going to be wild. Come to think of it, both of them were banned for a while so they might not be around.
Standard SSHE is SOP on all LHE tables at Hinckley.
Good luck getting our Native brothers to discount or comp anything.

Thanks for the heads up about the games. Is there a game between the 2-10 and the 2-60?

My plan is to give the poker room a call today about the hotel rate. It can't hurt to give it a shot, I guess. It just seems like a waste to spend a lot on the room. I plan to get there about 7-8PM, play for 5-6 hours (depending on how late the games go), sleep for 5-6 hours and head out. So I will be in the room for all of 6 hours max.

There are some other hotels around there. I stayed at one like 5 minutes away when I went up there and I remeber it being cheap but decent. So, if you don't want to pay up for the casino's hotel check out the other nearby options. Also, when I was up there the poker room was pretty dissapointing. But, I guess that is to be expected when comparing it to someplace like Canterbury.
