because party wants to keep you at the table. if they let you win, you'll go up like 25bb and then leave with all of the money and cripple the table. see? by letting (well, making) you lose at the beginning, you've got a reason to keep playing.

its actually quite smart. don't let them catch you with their anal probes though - they hurt.
