And no, I'm not saying this justifies the river check. The reason I posted is to get input on why betting turn or river would be good.

Doesn't explain why you included the river action and the timing tell, but decent save none the less.

As for the timing tell, a lot of times when people take a while before checking OOP on the river they want a free showdown and try to make you think they're debating between a valuebet and a checkraise.
I often make thin valuebets against these types, if only just to frustrate them.
