Default Bankroll for $10/20

I hear bankroll requirements between 300 and 1000 big bets banded around.

Am safe playing $10/20 with $7k or do I need more?

More. At least at stars, the 10/20 plays significantly more aggro than the 5/10, which leads to wilder swings. I'd say at least double that if you're going to make it your main game.

yeah, I first tried to break into 10/20 on a 7k or so roll. After a bad run, I dropped to 5/10 and got totally destroyed. End result is that I busted my account.

you will run out of money if you hit a bad streak. thats only 350BB, and better players than you have gone on worse around here.

i'm not saying don't take a shot, but if things go bad, be ready to move down so you don't busto

I'd want 20k unless I was just taking a shot.

if you were playing this game as your livelyhood, I'd want even more than that. At least 50K, for back up expenses and stuff.

If this is a side thing, you can start with like 10000 and see where it goes

I don't know what all the fuss is regarding bankrolls. If you have 300BB (or whatever seems reasonable) you can play the game. If you lose 50BB you need to re-evaluate you bankroll and maybe drop down a level.

If you make some decent BBs, then maybe you can move up.

The main points being:-
-you move down if you hit a downswing
-you don't move up just because your bankroll has increased. You move up when it's +EV. And if paying for higher stakes education with BBs is +EV for you in the long term, then so be it.

Some people say you should keep to your guns and play your way out of a downswing. This isn't good advice. A downswing can last longer than you can remain solvent.

This is why 350bb is kinda silly: 50bb downer is like 20 minutes if you are playing more than 2 tables.

THe other problem with taking a shot with 300BB is that one 50BB downer and you are back to 500BB at your normal stakes. If you continue to run bad, you will find yourself totally hosed and playing smaller than you are used to or busto.
