the reason i check the flop is because I made a dummy check and saw the button reaching for chips. Bascially i was pretty sure he was betting.

yes it is...
if button is reaching for chips that means that you have to act first on his bet and just calling really sucks...so you raise and loose a ton of value from all those other guys who call with so much random [censored]
