Parallels is not emualtion though right? You actually need a copy of the windows OS and you are running the windows OS on the Mac with the Windows OS and OSX sharing resources.

I would recommend Boot Camp over Parallels.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, you need to buy/obtain a copy of Windows. But that is
also true for Boot Camp.

The big advantage of parallels over boot camp is that with parallels you
have simultaneous access to both OSX and Windows, whereas with bootcamp you must
choose to load Either OSX OR windows. Boot camp is not a seamless
solution by any means.

Jonathan

the problem with parallels is that both OS are sharing the system resources though, so performance may lag. That is the trade off.

For our work, I really need 2gb (expandable to 4gb) of RAM, and 2.33GhZ or so.

[/ QUOTE ]

You have listed hardware features. What are your business requirements? e.g. applications.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is the correct response.

a MAC can basically also be an XP machine with parallels. If I was in your camp, with no problem on the price, I would go with Apple all the way. Most programs already run on MAC and parallels with that the max amount of ram on the laptop, parelles should run fine for any windows only applications.

They might look the same, but the Apple is superior in multiple ways.

I believe parallels is actually a "virtual machine" program. In other words, what it is emulating is not an OS but an entire PC. You still need to install the OS on that "virtual machine", which, if the OS is Windows, means you have to buy it.

I installed OSX on my Dell PC Laptop, saving me over $1000 compared with a similar MacBook...

Can you spec that out Freak? I find it hard to believe Apples are twice as much as comparable Dells.

Woah, prices have definitely changed since I looked at MacBook Pros. I have a 2.13GHz Core2Duo with 2GB of ram, 100gb 7200RPM hdd, and geforce 7400. It's a dell w/ a 3 year warranty w/ accidental damage protection. It was around $2k, plus a little extra for the internal EVDO card I added later.

I didn't say it was twice as much, but the Mac was definitely more expensive when I looked at it.
