A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation

[/ QUOTE ]

rap =/ hip-hop

[/ QUOTE ]
They rap on the song so I'd say it's rap

rap=the music
hip hop=the culture

imo

[/ QUOTE ]

I would agree and so does this dude:

Are they terms for the same thing? No, says Davey D, nationally renowned hip-hop historian. He acknowledges that some people think rap is a more frivolous form of hip-hop, but thinks ''that's a false definition. One is part of a whole. Rap is part of a larger entity we call hip-hop, which is a culture.''

Hip-hop n., an American cultural movement composed of four main parts: breakdancing and graffiti art along with two more well-known aspects known as hip-hop music; they are rapping (emceeing) and DJ-ing.

Rap v., the act of saying rhymes to the actual beat of the music.

AMOG can you please explain why Brenda's Got a Baby is rap? Why is Electric Relaxation not rap?

[/ QUOTE ]
KRS-one says basically the same thing on the Hip Hop lives title track also.

If he thinks conscious hip hop isn't rap then he needs to do be assigned an essay about what rap's subject matter was primarily about until Ice Tea came along lol.

I don't know what the best single track is, but the five best ever albums are:

Enter The 36 Chambers by The Wu-Tang Clan
No One Can Do It Better by The D.O.C.
Blackout by Method Man and Redman
Do You Want More?!!!??! by The Roots
Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys

I'll go with Nas - NY State of Mind. But in all honesty, that's just the first really cool rap song I thought of.
