Cant connect to websites/msn/poker

i unplug the network cable and plug it straight into my laptop.

none of my poker software can connect.

msn wont connect (error code 80048820)

and some websites such as gmail.com wont work

I have turned off windows firewall and set my sygate firewall to allow all (temporarily) and that wont fix the problem.

The guy at my internet company told me to type some dns addresses (on my pc) and I applied the same setting to my laptop.

why are only some websites working and not poker/msn?
