How tricky are you to 3bet on a fairly harmless board? Any hand I COULD see doing this (AYBE ONCE IN A BLUE MOON JJ? Tx?) is folding to a push (right?).

so that's why I think this is bad.

i do this every once in a while when my c-bets are getting picked off too much. i usually get looked up too much to make it EV. but i disagree that just because you three bet the flop, it makes it look like a bluff. there are a few made hand that i would three bet here (a set, OESD, and well thats probably it)

hm, are these in the larger portion of your range though? Probably not? And if you're folding the medium strength hands to pushes here, would this be exploitable?

but then again, most players don't think on the nth level at this level, so they wouldn't bluff push right?

standard move to pull rarely, but you do need to pull this move occasionally. lol @ all the haters. So I guess you only 3 bet this flop deep with a set then? Ya, you guys must be a real challenge to play against.

With these stacks on this board, villain will often show up with air/nuts.

I like making it 300, 350 seems like too much. Obviously, just make sure you do this with real hands too so it doesnt become a 100% bluff move.

Question: Are you more or less inclined to make this play with J9, or would you prefer to see a turn.

This game is not about 'balls'. This game is not about 'being cool'. This game is about making money. In this spot, in a vaccuum, is this the most +EV play? If so, why would you only make this move rarely? If not, what is it about this time that makes it more +EV than the play which is normally optimal? This play blows and your post blows.

lol, somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I clearly didnt state this is an optimal EV line. I just said its something you should do once in awhile. Obviously its EV neg in a vacuum, but the good thing is OP didnt ask if its good in a vaccum, he asked how often one should do this and he then provided a specific hand. Which is the question I addressed.

maybe my tone was cranky, but your post was really not good. the answer to his question is 'never'. you do not need to balance your plays with sets by playing the same with a gutshot and backdoor flush draw. you also do not need to play big pots with air against another tough spot, especially when you have a deep stack which is valuable and which you should not just piss away making fancy plays like this because you're bored. the play is bad. bad plays should not be made. therefore, the play should not be made. i mean, why not just go all in so that you can go all in when you have top set here and get paid because they have seen you make the same move with air when they instacalled you with mid-set in this hand? how often should you be doing that?
