Well, if you want to be trendy go with a shade of purple. Gold ties can look pretty good with grey. Red is somewhat typical but can be ok if it's subtle. Do not wear a black tie.

First off, what kind of job is it you are being interviewed for? If it is more of a laid back profession you could go with a tie that is a bit "crazier" like a Jerry Garcia or Beatles line, but not as ugly as the one above.

Do not go with a black shirt!! Also do not go with white, too ordinary. I would also not go with something too goddy like a flashy gold or purple. I would suggest a blue or yellow shirt. As for a tie go with Kenneth Cole Reaction for a reserved look and Jerry Garcia for a less conservative design. Couldn't find a combo online, if I find one I'll post it, but someone at a Macys or Nordstroms should be able help you get an exact combo of shirt and tie if you let them know what you'r elooking for.

Thanks everyone. The interview is with the Federal Reserve Bank, so I think I'll need to go conservative. I'm gonna do just a white shirt with a dark red tie.

I'll keep the tips in this thread in mind for the future though. I really like the color of the suit. The one I have is a just ok one ($400), but I'm gonna get a nice one soon.
