A supreme court ruling said that the 16th Amendment conferred no new power of taxation to the government. The constitution allows only excise and direct taxes, the income tax is neither.

What is a "direct" tax? I don't see that word in either of the articles I posted, what does it mean exactly?

I am not really sure what I can do to get this info out there. This was all new to me yesterday. I posted a bulletin on myspace about Russo's film, and this inflation calculator. I really want more people to hear about this because it flat out does not get reported in the news, and thats a [censored] travesty.

direct is a tax that everyone has to pay, but the money collected has to be redistributed to everyone, via paying for services and whatnot. The money we pay for Fed Income tax go to pay off the interest our government accrues by borrowing from the Fed Reserve. Indirect taxes are taxes that you choose to pay, such as fuel taxes, cig taxes.

There are only 2 limitations on taxes in the constitution: that all taxes be uniform, and that direct taxes be proportioned. The latter requirement is waived for income taxes by the 16th Amendment.

cite?

I think what you're really saying is not according to Aaron Russo, but (not to speak ill of the departed) Russo is a liar and a manipulator.

I think he is more self-decieving that an outright liar. Alot of what he has stems from a genuine concern of his for the preservation of humanity, liberty, justice and freedom (at least thats what I inferred from the interview with him). I think he's going about it in the the wrong way; but I would hesitate to call him a liar,
