Default Baseball: ~120 games in, Dog Days of Summer - Race to Finish

I made a post when the baseball season was ~60 games in and thought then another post at ~120 games in would be interesting. So here it is.

Standings

Wild Card

What is the surprise now, who is doing well, who is not, who will fade and who will make the grade?

Angels and Red Sox are top teams, the Giants are in the cellar; Detroit and Cleveland and Milwaukee and Cubbies are both neck and neck. Both wild card races are tight. Yankees and Mariners are still very much alive and in the running for a post-season berth. The NL wildcard is stacked with a number of teams in the running.

The Dodgers have stumbled and the Cardinals are making a move.

The Diamondbacks (best record in the NL) are still proving that it is better to be lucky than good. They are 16 games over .500, allowing 547 runs to runs scored of 521. Hope Valverde holds up (37 saves).

Predictions, comments or Rants all welcome.

FYP

And Milwaukee is toast. Their pitching has been the worst in the league for weeks and they can't even score runs now. When you get destroyed in a series by St. Louis, you're done. Sure, if they turn it on for the final 40 games they could win the division, but there is no reason to think that will happen.

I think the Yankees will take the WC in the AL if they don't catch Boston. I really have no idea who wins the AL Central. If Detroit can stick around until their pitchers get healthy, then I think they can win it.

Toughest race to call might be the NL WC. You have the loser of the West, Atlanta, Philly, and maybe even the Dodgers in the mix.

Possible but not pleasing.

The NL Central is a non-enity when it comes to post-season possiblities. In others words, they go nowhere in my opinion.

Let's list teams from the AL that would make the playoffs if they played in the NL Central.

I'll start.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays

I'd tend to agree, except I remember what happened last year.

That said, you're still right.

the winner of the little league world series should be allowed to compete in the NL central to see if they can catch the brewers
