Deadlift, dizzyness, temporary deafness.
I'm sure this is normal, but sometimes after I finish a set of deadlifts, I feel lightheaded. Mostly from just holding all that air in each rep.
Anyways, sometimes right before I perform the rep, and right after I inhale, my left ear goes a little deaf. It probably has something to do with increased air pressure in my sinuses. Is this weird? Also, this lift really kicks yer ass. I love it. I'm still weak as [censored] though. |

Re: Deadlift, dizzyness, temporary deafness.
theblackkeys,
I usually have this happen when I'm in bad shape and push myself too hard in the gym. I get very lightheaded, the blood starts pounding in my ears and I get a ringing sound along with decreased hearing. I've also had it come along with nausea and occasionally I'll start yawning uncontrollably. I think this might be my body trying to get more oxygen. Anyone know what this might be exactly? |

I still get this from time to time, usually on deadlift as well. Try to pause longer between reps to take a couple breaths.

[/ QUOTE ] Well the hearing part for me only happens while I'm holding my air in. After that it's fine. I believe I yawn sometimes too, now that you mention it. It's probably just the air pressure that we create when we suck air in and create a solid midsection for the lift. |

Re: Deadlift, dizzyness, temporary deafness.
LOL last time I dead-lifted this happened to me. My ears totally popped and my hearing was gone for a second. I guess I was holding my breath like a retard, or keeping my mouth closed and exhaling so it created pressure in my head.
It just lets you know you did a good lift. |

i've nearly passed out from deadlifts before.
they make your blood pressure do crazy things. |

Re: Deadlift, dizzyness, temporary deafness.
Yeah. You don't really have to hold your breath, either, though. That's more important when making a max effort, and work-outs should have a lot more to them than max efforts.

Re: Deadlift, dizzyness, temporary deafness.
It probably has something to do with air pressure, not exhaling during lift, etc. I think deads are the most intense lift at the gym, at my physical peak I'd pop 3 25mg tabs of ephedrine, lift 495, then throwup. I'd repeat this until I was dizzy with exhaustion, then finish my back workout. Then I wonder why my back ached so much.

Re: Deadlift, dizzyness, temporary deafness.
All,
The deadlift, being that is doesn't really have a "down portion" isn't well suited to sets. Same for any O lift. Perhaps taking a few seconds for heavier sets to reset and make sure to breathe would help in this. |
