Amen. Did everyone forget about Pats-Colts and Eagles-Saints already? Fantastic games.

All of these things are true but they matter little.

[/ QUOTE ]matter little in what way?

[/ QUOTE ]

In my enjoyment of the game itself. Everything else is more or less going meta.

Thread should be over after the first response.

It's up to each individual (football player or not) to take care of his own financial situation.

There are risks in football just like other sports and professions. Football players accept those risks when they play. They should probably make rules to minimize those risks as long as the game remains viable (ie. don't add more rules like the ridiculously crappy current rules protecting the quarterback).

I'm with Jack. None of these things make the game on the field less exciting to me. None of them make me want to cheer for my team less.

Concussions are an issue, but I think in a few years they will end up mandating safer helmets and they will be cut to an acceptable level.

And overexposure? I wish there was an NFL game on every night of the week.

Concussions are the thing that really needs to be taken care of. Better helmets and a mandatory period where you can't play after getting a concussion. The idea that someone could go back into the game after a concussion is sickening to me.

The NFL pension is pretty big now and I'm pretty sure a chunk of the mandatory rookie training is about investment/retirement. You can't force people to be smart with their money though...

Its sad to see some of the earlier generation guys struggling now, but I don't think their problems are going to be felt as much by the later generations of NFL players due to better equipment, training and tons more $$$.

The legal issues are just a byproduct of young/dumb/arrogant players having tons of money. I also don't think it bothers fans as much as the media likes to think it does.

Maybe, but people are doing this at all levels and in sports other then football.

Also, I don't think you can really complain about NFL helmets at this point, they are really really good. Their use maybe is an issue though (it seems like they are sometimes too loose and also not strapped on well).

The NHL currently has rules mandating that players cannot play for a minimum period of time after getting a concussion, and have to see a specialist regarding their concussion to get clearance to play.

Something like that should be in football, too. Concussions and head injuries are a big deal, and can lead to long term damage even when cared for properly.
