Uh.. I had lots of time as the cars in front of me were still almost stopped. That's the part I don't get. Traffic didn't start moving again until a couple of hundred feet after the accident.

No doubt the accident the OP was referring to was originally blocking lanes of traffic and that is the reason for the standstill. Two cars and a pig on the side of the road in and of itself isn't enough to cause a slowdown.

If I was the OP I'd be more pissed that after all that waiting he was owed far juicier rubbernecking than he got.
