Rubber-necking
I simply don't get it.
I just sat in 3 miles of bumper-to-bumper non-rush hour traffic. What do I find when I finally get to the cause of it 20 minutes later? 1 cop car and two other cars ON THE SHOULDER of the road. It looked like a rear-ender that could barely snap your head back. If I'm going to waste all that time and be late for work I want to see an upside down vehicle or flames! Why can't people take a glance at this stuff doing 60! |

Re: Rubber-necking
Ok. Why the need to slow down or even look at this at all then? I just don't get why these little accidents have to bring traffic to a halt after they have been cleared.

Bummer. I thought this was going to be a thread on how to check out hot chicks without pissing off the girlfriend. |

Re: Rubber-necking
I think that if you're passing an accident scene that you should slow down, if just for the sake of the poor people walking/standing less than 10 feet from traffic doing 70. However, I think slowing down to a near standstill is unnecessary and very dangerous.

Next time you drive by one of these accidents. Try not to look at all. Just stare at the car in front of you, and keep driving.

Why can't people take a glance at this stuff doing 60! [/ QUOTE ] Remember, these are the same people who slow down to 30 on the highway the moment it starts drizzling. On a side note, I saw a pretty funny accident this morning coming in. Looks like it happened right before I got there, too. Some immigrant woman in a tiny car was turned perpendicular to the lanes and an 18-wheeler was up against her driver-side door. She was all crying, but looked OK. It looked like she was merging onto the highway and didn't see him and she wrapped around him (must have been going rather slowly though). |
