Re: Bottom Set vs. 4_2_It
[ QUOTE ]
If it were anyone else, I'd say value bet 1/2 pot on the river since a bad king will call. Given the opponent, no hand you beat will call any bet. Therefore a river bet serves no +EV purpose, and I check behind to see what the hell he's doing & make sure my read is right. [/ QUOTE ] I'd only do that if I knew villain also knows who I am and respects me. |

Re: Bottom Set vs. 4_2_It
I don't get this. I can see not betting the river with a marginal hand that you could get moved off of. But not to value bet what figures to be the best hand on a non-threatening board so as to make sure your read is correct strikes me as wrong-headed. Hands you beat can call; hands you beat can raise. Bet and call any raise.

Re: Bottom Set vs. 4_2_It
Your answer obviously is none.
For argument's sake I'll concede this point (though I think there are hands he can call or raise with that hero has beat), I still don't understand why you don't value bet the best hand here 'cause it probably will not be called. I'd rather bet here every time and not be called than check this hand behind. |

Re: Bottom Set vs. 4_2_It
Gotta go with KJ? Lead the flop as usual, scary raise by opponent, may be a draw but may be a set, WA/WB, call down on non-scare cards?
It just looks like two pair calling down to me. I'd say a big K but you would have raised preflop, right? |

Re: Bottom Set vs. 4_2_It
Right, my answer is none. But I am interested in what your answer is. Someone else suggested KJ, and I guess that is possible, but I'd expect a turn raise normally.
There's no value in bettiing if only a better hand can call. Betting is -EV in that case if no hand we beat will call. When I said that I want to see what Hero is doing, that's not really the reason I check this. It's just a beneficial by-product. The reason I check is becasue betting is -EV. Also, when I first posted that I was assuming 42 was playing his A game. Since then it has been suggested that he wasn't due to this reason or that reason, but I'm still going on the idea that he was. |
