Default Q for SSNL - definition?

Can anyone clearly and concisely define the term 'metagame'? I can only give vague examples. I also dug for the term in the lingo/stickies/etc and couldn't find it.

basically just means the current game environment, which encompasses a lot of things. you might do something you normally wouldn't for metagame reasons, such as overall table agression levels, image issues, etc. its not just a poker thing.

Metagame is basically the psychological image you have of your opponents and vice versa, it is affected by every play you make at the table, standard or non-standard. Saying something is good for metagame essentially means it's good for the image (i.e. it helps promote a certain image of yourself in your opponents minds that you will be able to exploit in later hands).

yeah, kinda. it can be used more in a broad sense too. like games in general today are much more agressive than they were 10 years ago, so against unknowns, trapping would be more viable now than it was then, for metagame reasons, etc.
