Default Exploring the (poker) country: WSOP Style!

Basically, I'm taking a huge roadtrip from Missouri to Vegas, and thought I'd chronicle at least the poker part of it here. In Vegas, I'm meeting up with 6 other guys, including SirFelixCat and another 2+2er (who will remain anonymous until he gives me permission).

So, I'm driving the long way, through Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, in order to stop at random casinos and visit some old friends.

Tonight, I'm in Miami, Oklahoma. I played at Buffalo Run Casino here, which was an interesting experience.

First of all, in the 1/2 game here, it's a 200 max buy-in, but the MINIMUM call preflop is $5. So, it turns into a 3/5 game with 1 and 2 dollar blinds, and it gets crazy immediately. Raises preflop are anywhere from 20-35, and you're pretty much all-in if you decide you want to play past the flop.

Problem is, my hands didn't hold up, or didn't have a chance. My first big blind, I'm dealt TT and raise to 20. 2 callers, Flop comes 975 rainbow, I throw out 40, immediately check/pushed on me by the SB for about 100 more. I fold, and he shows me 97.

Okay, fair enough.

Second bad hand was just plain bad luck. Set of 3's on a 643 two-suited flop, I lead out for 30 (7 players, everyone limped), raised to 100, I push, he calls. He turns over 66, and that's pretty much my night.

Up and down other than that, but I made some pretty stupid plays late to knock off my hopes of coming back from that.

Down $245 so far. Lucky I brought a decent bankroll, but Eddie, if you think you're getting me in a 2/5 or 3/5 game with those kinds of swings...no way. smile.gif I'm sticking to 1/2 for now.

Tomorrow, there's no poker, so I can clear my mind. I'm visiting my friend in OKC, and she's gotten tickets for Sunday to the Big XII baseball championship, so I'll have a lot of fun. Then, I'm going down to WinStar just north of the Texas state line to play Sunday night. I know a couple of you are going to be there. If you see the blonde-headed kid wearing the TMNT shirt, come say hi.

More to come if you guys are interested.

Quick question for Keys---did you notice if Buffalo Run had a 3/6 limit game or two going? I'm 90 miles up the road, and want to get down there, but don't want to play NL.

Look forward to seeing updates on your trip.

Yeah. There were two 3/6 limit games and two "1/2" NL games going.

Alright. So, I get to Oklahoma City girl's house around noon. I help her set up, because she's inviting a lot of people over from work, and we're going to have an afternoon party. Keep in mind, I went to school with a lot of these people too.

So, one of them is a complete [censored] to me the whole time. Scoffing at everything I say, etc., and making fun of me behind my back. Turns out, he's friends with my (4-year) ex. I'm pretty sure she's been badmouthing me to a lot of people, when she was really the [censored] one, and I've said NOTHING but nice things about her to people that know her. I was pretty pissed about that. But, I saw a friend of mine that I hadn't seen in a while. She used to really like me, and even though she had a boyfriend for the longest time (who she's now married to), she kept trying to sleep with me when I was going out with the aforementioned girl.

It never happened, because in the end, I'm not a complete [censored], but this comes into play later.

So, that group of friends leaves, and it ends up being me, the girl who hosted me, the girl I just mentioned, her husband, and this other pretty cool (but shy guy), and we all head down to a club (completely drunk already, in a cab), to go dancing.

We're sitting at the table, and about an hour in, the girl who's hosting me starts holding my hand and getting really close. That's cool. She's hot, and I can roll like that.

But, then, the OTHER girl starts looking at me kind of sadly. I ask her what's wrong (keep in mind, her husband is sitting two seats away from her), and she tells me that she's really upset that we never hooked up (because she tried quite a bit), and is really bothered by this. Again, her husband is TWO seats away. I don't think he can hear, but Jesus.

Anyway, so I'm sitting there listening to this, and I'm nervous as hell, but trying not to laugh at the same time. I try to assure her that she's fine, she's hot, and I'd have slept with her if I wasn't dating the other girl. So, she likes that answer, and starts rubbing my inner thigh. Keep in mind, the host girl is doing one thing, and now, married girl is starting. Obviously, I'm thinking how insanely [censored] lucky I'm getting, but at the same time, what the [censored] is her husband thinking?

So, we go out and dance, and it's mainly the three of us, which is awesome, and all that. Then, I start to black out. I *really* don't remember what I said/did, etc. after that. I know bits and pieces, so I'll share the [censored] I know.
So, we eventually get home somehow, and married girl I think left without more incident. However, I don't really know what happened. I blacked out THAT hard. I am pretty sure something happened. I'm not going to explain why here, but I figured you guys could enjoy that story.

Okay, now onto the boring poker stuff. Tonight started off really bad. Stacked a guy for about 85 early with AKo all in preflop against 99 when a K hit the flop, so a good start.

Then, I got AKs on the button, raised to 20. Two callers. Flop comes KT5 rainbow. Awesome. SB bets out 50, though, other folds, I smoothcall. Turn comes a blank and he throws out 100.

I mutter "[censored]" to myself and toss it.

He, thankfully, shows me pocket tens, to make my life a little easier.

Then, I get QQ in the SB.

Raise to 20, two callers. This becomes a pattern, apparently. Flop comes K72, again, rainbow.

I bet out 40, of course, someone calls. Turn comes an ace, and I'm done. They push, I fold. Didn't see what they had.

So, I'm down about 80. Make a trip to the cashier, and bump back up to 200 even.
Later, I get 77 in the SB. UTG+1 raises12 preflop. 2 callers, then I call.

Flop comes 78J, two suited. I bet out 30, I'm immediately pushed by UTG+2 (a LAGgy player, but pretty solid postflop)

So, 120 more back to me, as everyone folds in record time.

I'm having flashbacks to Friday night's set over set, but I refuse to even contemplate it.

I call, he flips over J7. Turn and river don't help, and I get a huge pot.

Okay, so we get through that. I'm up to about 330-340. I'm starting to gain confidence, and am feeling a lot better.

The VERY next hand, I get AKo on the button.
Limper, limper, limper, limper.
I raise to...????, yes, 20.

Again, two callers. I have no idea what's with the two people calling me. Caller 1 is the significant one, he has 85 (about) more behind him)

Flop comes K52, two clubs. I do not have any clubs.

Checked to me, I bet out 40, he check/pushes.
I tank for a little bit for table image, in case anyone's giving a [censored]. I huff and call, he turns over 63 clubs. He misses, I hit again.

Only other hand of significance was 2 hands before I left.
I've changed seats, and I'm on the right of a 250 stack, who is a pretty good TAG. I'm on the button. 5 limpers, I limp with 88, he completes, BB checks.

Flop comes 742 rainbow. He bets ten, one caller...the caller kind of scares me, so I don't raise. Probably a mistake, but meh. It's a weird situation, especially with SB/BB.

So, I call, and you know what the turn is, given my night.

I hit my set, and he bets 10 again.

Other guy actually folds to this (WTF?), and I raise to 40. He calls.

River comes a K, he checks, I go ahead and bet 50. I contemplated a push for a second, but I don't think he'd go for it, even with two pair. He tanks for a long, long time. Tries to stare me down. I laugh, he calls. He loses.

Overall, up 302 for tonight, which was huge, given that first day. Up for the trip, and having the absolute time of my life.

Tomorrow's the day I'm nervous for, though. I'm seeing the only girl in the world who, every time I see her, makes me completely off my game. We'll see how that goes.

Overall, the WinStar room is VERY nice. Apparently, it's brand new, but it's by far the best non-Vegas room I've seen.

Next stop: Dallas. Next poker stop: Albuquerque.

See you Tuesday, good buddy. I still think you should have asked him his favorite cartoon character and why, when he tried to stare you down in that last hand. Alas, you did not. I promise to do so at LEAST once next week. Laughs for all, I'm sure.

Have a safe trip and good luck.
