Iverson might have been able to put on enough weight to be an effective CB. He certainly has the right type competitive spirit to play defense.

OP: if Lebron could step in and be unstoppable, how well do you think these guys could do:

DWade Assuming football was his sport from birth, no reason he couldn't be a great QB or WR
Kobe Same, I think Kobe's insane competitiveness would lead him near the top of just about any sport he chose.
Kevin Garnett Too skinny and tall. I don't think he could ever put on enough weight to play any position.
Allen Iverson Too small. I suppose he could be a Dante Hall-esque kick returner, but even that would be a stretch.

ok I agree with some of this, but I think my larger point was that, athletically & physically speaking, not much separates Lebron from Kobe and Dwade. so if he thought Lebron could strap on a helmet next Sunday morning and dominate, then does he think all those guys could as well?

also, Iverson is the size of a few great WR's

as long as we're speculating, I think this guy would break all sack records if he played in the NFL:

I think the difference is that James was known as a top collegiate football prospect in high school, so he at least has some experience, while, to my knowledge, the others don't.

I don't think he could step in and dominate, but I think if he spent a summer and a preseason with a team, he could be an everyday player in his first season.

How bout Greg Paulus being the best NFL prospect out of anyone playing basketball above the high school level?

If you look at any sport, there are people that are great partly because they're more athletic/better body type than other people - think KG/Shaq/DWade in basketball, or Randy Moss/Richard Seymour/Orlando Pace in football, and then there are people that succeed partly because they've mastered sport-specific roles- most 3 point specialists, for instance, or someone like Tom Nalen, who's not that big but has great technique. Steve is in the former category, and Joe Montana is in the latter. Occasionally you get players that clearly aren't that athletic that are still world-class- think Larry Bird.

Anyway, my point is that Lebron and DWade and all those people would probably be able to succeed in the NFL given some time, but not immediately. The Pats took a player, Steven Neal, who hadn't played football since HS but was a champion collegiate wrestler, and turned him into a starting guard in a few years. I think people could find something to do with Lebron. And all those people saying he'd get killed in the NFL- he's 6'8 240. He'd be able to protect himself as well as any other receiver that got hit.

In summation, the level of athleticism in the NFL is such that there are few people that can dominate based on being bigger/stronger/faster than everyone else on the field. However, Lebron seems to be one of those types that is bigger/stronger/faster than anyone on the basketball court, and I wouldn't doubt that he could be a high-quality WR w/in three years, presuming he catches the ball well.

I know he was supposedly ranked highly as a football prospect coming out of HS, but I'm pretty sure he only played (varsity) for one year, his sophomore. I'm pretty sure Iverson was a bigger football star in HS then James. He won the state championship his junior year as the starting QB.

40 times, height, vert =/ athleticism and coordination. Whether or not LeBron would be really good in the NFL is hard to say. The NFL is far and away the least skill specific of the major sports so I would think it would be possible. To say LeBron would not be good because another person who is tall, fast and you use Matt Jones is ridiculous. Its saying Garrett Wolfe will be Barry Sanders becasue they are both short strong and elusive runners. The "interesting" parallel is awful.
