i guess it's common, some good albums have a bad apple. fwiw, i liked the sporting life.

with this album for me, it's exactly the opposite. i'm indifferent/dislike every track except for yankee bayonet, which is my favorite decemberists song out of their entire catalog.

Standard. "The Perfect Crime" is definitely the weakest song on the record.

After reading all the glowing reviews I bought this at I tunes.What a very average collection this is.Nothing inspired about this junk.To say this is the best of 2006 when Dylan's Modern Times was released a few months ago is insanity.These guys can't write and they can't play.I actually thought maybe there was something new I could get into but like everything else put out this is junk.I must officially be old because I long for the days when this crap wouldn't even make it out of the studio.This is just a bad REM knockoff.

this song is much better than "the perfect crime," and i think it is fine musically. if i ignore the lyrics i can listen to it, but the lyrics are pretty lame imo. not that it doesn't flow well or anything, its just the subject matter in general. "my dad wanted me to be a jock but it's too bad for him i'm actually an artsy pale guy." let me know if there's a deeper meaning i'm missing.

dont get me wrong though. each album does have a fairly weak spot in my opinion, but i still really like both of them.
