that what made old video games so much better than new ones. they would frustrate the hell out of you until you beat it. it's something you know you could beat, but you'd always screw up, or the game would sort of glitch, or the computer would cheat, and you basically had to keep playing until you beat it. sort of like the crocodile jumping in bayou billy.

It's kind of why I love Ikaruga, it's ****ing difficult, even on easy, but if you die it's because you're simply not good enough, it has the kind of challenge that is simply lacking in the majority of modern games

I don't really agree with that. A lot of memorization is needed to be truly good at Ikaruga.

I just watched a speed run for the japanese mario 2, and then the lost levels one (same game different graphics + some extra levels).

It's ridiculous. It reminded me of that diabolical mario thing.

i love speed runs. can you link me to this?

Japanese SMB2 speed run
All-stars version of game

There are a lot on youtube. Some end up showing the US SMB2, so those are boring.

I just watched a US SMB2 speed run. I had no idea there were warps in that game. Then again it did say tool assisted.

You can take some of them out at some stage with a koopa troopa, otherwise you'll just have to jump over them. Also try jumping around near where that koopa troopa would rebound, there's a mushroom and a shortcut

ya i made 8-4. the first screen is ridiculous there.

anyway, i guess most of you already know this but if you hit the flagpole at the end of each level at the right time you will get an extra man. to do so your coins need to be a multiple of 11, ie 11 33 55 00. then you need to hit the flagpole when the last timer digit matches the last coin digit, ie 55 coins and 235 "seconds". pretty ridiculous but without those lives theres no way id beat any level past world 4.
