It brings up the whole question of when people say:

"I'm sorry if I offended you."

IMO the "if" part of the sentences retracts the apology.

Either way, Tim Hardaway needs to keep his mouth shut, and I'd rather ESPN cover the Celtics losing streak ending, profiling the upcoming baseball season, the NHL, or anything non-Nascar, non-John Amaechi.

Eagles/MEbenhoe: There's a serious problem in professional sports with homophobia. Yeah, I agree it's better that he's honest than not, but it would still be alot better if so many people weren't so ridiculous with their anti-gay stances. And it's not just that he doesnt want to share a locker room with people who might be attracted to him (which I guess is undestandable), but the "I hate gay people" comment that pisses me off.

I mean, 10% of our population is gay, and AT LEAST that % is gay in pro sports, it's just that people are afraid to come out because of guy like Hardaway. He's an ignorant little bitch, unfortunately representative of alot of pro athletes.

I have a huge amount of respect for Laverneus Coles coming out as Bi last year, hopefully it starts a trend so we can end this ridiculous hate.

It's not about being 'correct' you dumb [censored]. It's about not spreading hate. Racism or homophobia, it's all the same.

His apology:

"Yes, I regret it. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said I hate gay people or anything like that," he said. "That was my mistake."

Yeah, that's not exactly a retraction. "Oops, my bad."

[/ QUOTE ]

why should he retract something he believes? I think its more honest of him to simply admit he shouldn't have said it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree with you. I was just surprised, because something like this usually results in an awkward attempt at a retraction.

No, he didn't come out and say this.

He came out about how he was molested (actually, raped is probably a better word) by a man who would become his stepfather when he was 10 through age 13.

He went on Oprah (this was the fall of 05) and talked about the molestation and how it has hurt him as an adult and prevented him from trusting people, which is why he doesn't have a wife or girlfriend.

A number of idiots have tried to contort the fact he was raped as a child by a man into a public admission he is gay or bisexual.

link fixed.

Absurdities still remain.

[ QUOTE ]
Coles remained silent about the abuse for years, instead using it to drive him to become one of the NFL's best receivers.
