Default Stupid or Standard?

300 entrants. It's down to 70. I'm sitting with less than half the average and the leader to my left. Figured I take a shot here:

Seat 1: Skillzmatix (15,590)
Seat 2: Adrian_Monk (6,815)
Seat 3: IRONCURTAIN74 (2,640)
Seat 4: whambamtysir (21,885)
Seat 6: DQuadfather (4,880)
Seat 7: drew0343 (29,127)
Seat 8: SweetOldBroad (8,725)
Seat 9: ringjob3 (10,711)
SweetOldBroad posts the small blind of 120
ringjob3 posts the big blind of 240
The button is in seat #7
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to DQuadfather [2s 2h]

Adrian_Monk raises to 640

DQuadfather calls 640

*** FLOP *** [4d 3h 5d]

Adrian_Monk bets 960

DQuadfather raises to 3,360
Adrian_Monk raises to 5,760
DQuadfather calls 855, and is all in
Adrian_Monk shows [As Ad]
DQuadfather shows [2s 2h]
Uncalled bet of 1,545 returned to Adrian_Monk
*** TURN *** [4d 3h 5d] [8c]
*** RIVER *** [4d 3h 5d 8c] [Tc]
Adrian_Monk shows a pair of Aces
DQuadfather shows a pair of Twos
Adrian_Monk wins the pot (10,270) with a pair of Aces

Figured I had implied odds to make the call, my image was good, and needed to avoid a desperation shove with the leader to my left.

Should I have even been in the hand? Should I have just called post-flop? Or was this a poorly-timed decent shot?

Hmmmm....well i'm pretty sure you don't have the implied odds to call preflop since you are not stacking off villian everytime, and will be folding to most every flop.

Furthermore, I'm not sure you should be playing in this manor since you are still 20bb deep.

I think calling here pf is out of the question. Implied odds are not there for when you make your hand. He's raising utg +1, which makes me think he intends to play his hand (without further reads). Seems like a standard fold, if you were shorter, I would consider shoving over him pf.

Do I have to taking villian's stack every time to be getting implied odds. I thought - and maybe this is the problem - that as long as you and villain 8 x the call yr good to go. Didnt think this was contingent on stacking villian off every time.

Also, I agree that I couldve waited. Like i said, though, I wanted to avoid a redzone (or close to) shove with the leader on my left.

Usually pretty nitty. Just looking for ways to open up.

Consider losing 640 of your 4800 7 of the 8 times you have to fold to his c-bet for a total of -4480, as well as your m dropping rapidly from having to c/fold after missing, effectively making your next double significantly less.

So yeah, you pretty much need to be certain villain is stacking off 100% of the time we flop our set to justify calling, which we can't do.
