Default Caro\'s Book of Poker Tells

Thanks in part to the US Government, I will be forced to start playing more live poker.

Is Caro's Book of Poker Tells still relevant and helpful in today's games and is it worth the purchase?

Yes, but you may want to try the new alternative: Read 'Em and Reap, by Joe Navarro and Phil Hellmuth. It has some huge reviews and wraps.

I much prefer Navarro's book to Caro's book. You can get all Caro's information for free at this site:

I paid for it before knowing about the site.

Just remember, you won't be using the tells for most hands, but they may make a difference for particular players or in big hands (when stress levels rise).

I would suggest picking up both Caro's and Read 'em and Reap. You would not have to win many pots through the help of a tell or two to make the purchase a good investment.

I couldn't agree more. Both are great books (although I was slightly disappointed with Read'em after all the hype). Both books will offer you a ton of insight on the various tells in live poker.

Caro's videos (companions to the book, sort of) are also worth the money. the tells are greatly exaggerated in may cases, but what these books do is get you to think about tells and to pay much more attention at the table.

agreed on the navarro book being a little disappointing after all the build-up..... only look at caro's book at book store, but it looks very interesting....

one thing i find i do is when i have a super-premium hand (AA, KK maybe) is that i do a quick sort of look-around, but catch myself.

really with tells, you have to think about what you fight to suppress and others probably do it too... and just watch the small and big blind when they look at their cards and then predict whether they'll play. and you get better over time.

This book paid for itself before i finished reading it and stopped me doing some of the things in there.

I still regularly catch people showing these tells
