Default MMB Forum Merging with F&I?

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showfl...e=0#Post9669290

[ QUOTE ]
2) When the forum software is upgraded in April we are planning to merge this forum with the Finance and Investing forum. The reason for this is that the quality and quantity of content in this forum is not as we think it can be.

[/ QUOTE ]

This seems to imply that the mods of this forum have already signed off on this? (Or didn't have a say)

I look at the threads in that forum and find that very irrelevant to what is discussed here. Who is interested in making a 6-screens-long webpage attempting to direct people to buy some .pdf book or set up some kind of profit sharing ad-click scheme?

I have 0 pull here, do any of the more experience F&I posters have something to say about this?

Nothing is decided yet. It is just an idea, although it is under serious consideration. It was being talked about before Evan and myself became mods. The primary reason being that MMB is kinda junky and this forum has lower volume than you would expect. So hopefully by merging the two we can get more volume here and more quality posts there.

I would be opposed to this. Like you said, the forums are very different. Each has its own flavor. I find F&I way more helpful than MMB, but I do enjoy MMB from time-to-time. You just have to sift through the watered-down threads before you get to anything good over there. There is a lot more density of substance in F&I, IMO.

I agree with Pro. I don't see a need to merge the forums unless you are looking to reduce the number of links on the left side of the screen.

From what I can tell, these are for the most part forums with separate user bases. To me, MMB is a cluttered mess. I go there once in a while to see if anything useful to me has taken place. F&I typically has more meaty posts.

MMF folded into F&I is crazy. It becomes a carnival of competing topics:

Investing (a huge topic)
Trading (a huge topic)
Financial Planning (real estate, insurance, etc)
Web businesses (a huge topic)
Other business & Entreprenuership (a huge topic)

One location, so many strong factions. It's the new Iraq. Good luck organizing it under one banner.

What a terrible idea, combining internet entrepreneurs with financial investors. What next? combining sporting events with computer technical help?

Okay, they both involve trying to make money, but both in completely different ways.

The reason this forum is not that high volume is becuase there aren't many people specialised in finance who will spend their free time posting on an internet forum. Those who do, myself and I'm sure others are incredibly appreciate of such help, but you just won't find that many people who do.

MMB is kinda junky becuase it's turning into 'how to many money from blogs and article writing forum'. it was interesting when you had posts like 'i want people to help me import classic american cars to scandinavia' but those interesting, new angled threads are lacking. probably becuase if you have a money making idea, it generally costs you a lot to share it. one of the very few examples of this is websites, which is why mmb is getting full of website threads.

anyways, ill be very disappointed if they are merged, just see how many people post in both, and you can tell there is no reason to merge them.

just my thoughts.

john

I'm against this idea and I'd bet most of the regulars in both forums are also against it.

Both forums have different groups of regulars, besides 1 or 2 posters who post in both.

They cover very different topics.

I'm not sure why this idea is being discussed. Looking at post per day figures I can see other forums with lower traffic that could also be merged.

Here's Sniper's post count analysis:

From this you should see that there are other forums with lower traffic that could be merged first.

Software and Computer Technical Help have both got lower traffic and have computers in common.
The Lounge and The Dorm both have lower traffic and are both Off Topic forums.
I don't see the need to merge these forums either, but they make more sense to merge based on traffic then F&I and MMB.

I suppose the idea is to improve the quality of MMB and improve the traffic of F&I. It's worth a shot I guess but I hope ye'll be willing to split them back up if it doesn't work out.

alright guys, ill bring this thread up in the mod forum. I like the current state of finance, I mean, the threads ae all of really high quality. But I wish it was more popular given how much money alot of young poker players have on this site.
