If you raise here is he capable of 3betting without trips? What do you think he would do here with trips usually?

Is the game 4-handed from the start with you showing the ace and just two other queens?

If it's four-handed you can't fold and must calldown since a buried pair is a reasonably likely hand that he will continue to bet. Raising doesn't accomplish anything unless you two have the type of history where you're frequently hacking away with very little trying to get the other to fold.

Being the bring-in he is just as likely to have a 2c 9s as he is to have a 6 under there. If this is 4 handed with duplicated upcards, your overcard raise can easily look like a steal. he certainly can't put you on as strong a hand as you have. Would he 3-bet you with air? I like a raise.

i dont think you cant raise him here.

this is such an overly blown stud spot that people automatically assume he now has a set.. kind of annoying and its very situational and player dependant.

I think the only decision you have to make is whether to raise right away on 4th street or to wait until 5th street to raise.

Is the rationale behind the raise to "find out where i'm at"?

If I'm him, and I have the trips... If my opponent raises, I call and donk 5th street...

Please elaborate.. Your pal, fishy Beer$$

Almost any plan that involves never folding is defensible IMHO. I would raise somewhere probably.

i think more times than not you lose value for your hand more than you do when he actually does have the set. the format of stud makes people generally suspicious but in reality, if the guy plays good, chances are he came in with 6[78], type hands or a buried pair.

i dont know the villain here, so i cant say either way. but this is a common spot where a lot of players feel uncomfortable.. but you have to proceed with a sort of "innocent until proven guilty" attitude when you play a player you're familiar with and you dont think he'd start with a small meaningless split middle pair
