TV Critics best and worst of TV lists
The Best
1 - The Sopranos 2 - LOST 3 - Friday Night Lights 4 - The Office 5 - Ugly Betty 6 - Heroes 7 - 30 Rock 8 - The Shield 9 - Grey's Anatomy 10 - The Tudors 11 - The Riches 12t - Entourage 12t - Battlestar Galactica 14 - American Idol 15 - House 16 - Boston Legal 17 - The Daily Show 18 - Rescue Me 19 - Desperate Housewives 19t - Rome 21 - Everybody Hates Chris 21t - CSI 23 - Brothers and Sisters 24 - Veronica Mars 25 - The New Adventures of Old Christine My useless opinions: Where the [censored] is the Wire? Now, I don't know exactly how this list works (it is done by vote, incidentally, but a large group of TV/Newspaper/Internet TV critics). I suppose it's possible the list is confined top shows which actually air in 2007 (as opposed to since last summer), but in that case you'd have a hard time explaining the inclusion of 'Rescue Me', which has had like 2 episodes air in 07, neither of which was particular good. As for other notes, Daily Show is mostly on their game in Presidential election years and/or when being edgy. Broadcasting in a time where most people agree the people they are lampooning deserve lampooning takes some of the edge off; paired with the loss of a few key 'correspondents' I think the Daily Show is still great, but Colbert has been better this year. The Riches is an FX show I watched the first season of. The cast is good, and the show started hot, but the second half of the season was very hit or miss with more of the latter IMO. The Sopranos and the Office are obv great and deserve top spots. Friday Night Lights I watched the first episode of, shaky cam football drama that seemed to try to hard, and the hero QB gets injured so unknown backup comes in storyline was so played I wasn't interested, maybe it's worth another shot. A lot of OOT will think Heroes should be higher. IMO if they are going solely on episodes aired in 2007, it shouldn't be on the list at all. 30 Rock I've said before in OOT I think is too much 'part > whole' but still funny. Veronica Mars was a great show, especially the first 2 seasons (season 3 had a bunch of bad eps). Grey's Anatomy, CSI, House, American Idol I really hate. Finally, LOST. The last 4-5 episodes were so good, good enough to make me forget like the dozen or so bad hours I had to sit through this year. The Worst 1 - October Road 2 - 24 3 - The Real Wedding Crashers 4 - The Black Donnellys 5 - Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll 6 - Tyler Perry's House of Payne 7 - Nancy Grace 8 - Sons of Hollywood 8t - On the Lot 8t - The Wedding Belles Although I wish nothing but horrible things upon Nancy Grace, her inclusion on the list opens the door for like a dozen or so other cable news programs that should be on here too. 24 really did suck this year, I didn't watch like the last 4 hours, but wow was it horrible and I'm very happy it's on here. Never heard of a few of the shows, including October Road. I had the first episode of the Black Donnellys on (though I wasn't paying too much attention), it did seem really horrible. I watch way too much TV. I didn't use to. I watched a lot until like 5-6 years ago, when I started watching like almost none, but now am a junkie again cause of the ability to download and watch at will. |

Re: TV Critics best and worst of TV lists
FNL is every bit as good as rated. It's not fair to call it a football drama, it's mostly about the lives of people in a small town where football is used as a backdrop. It's certainly the cohesive element, but it has a broader scope than what you assume. Also, the acting of many key roles, especially the lead, is stellar.

Re: TV Critics best and worst of TV lists
FNL is that good.
Agree that this list is meaningless unless their criteria excludes The Wire, but frankly- if I'm writing a list like this, I shape my criteria such that I can't help but list the obvious best show on TV. Both Sopranos and Lost are too high. GA is horrible and shouldn't be on the list. |

how heroes can be considered better than anything other than getting kicked in the nuts repeatedly is beyond me, that show is terrible
