Question about Su Doku

Do you pencil in the numbers if you don't know what number goes in the box? Or do you try to do it in your head?

I pencil 'em in if it's between two numbers. More than two, and I don't bother. I mainly do it so I can solve the puzzle faster.

I'll do three in some situations, if I'm doing it on a piece of paper. Online if I'm thinking about a particular box I'll put em all in.

I feel like putting them all in weakens the experience of Su Doku. Why even do it if you don't really have to think about it logically?

It's much harder to find multicount sets if you don't do it.

sometimes i put potential numbers in, but too many makes it harder to see.
