Wynn - the worst game selection in town?

...and other people join The Duke's table and dump piles of cash on the table thinking they might get to play deep stack poker with him only to find out it ain't happenin'.

And what exactly is wrong with $30K at a NL1/3 table? Sounds like a dream to me. I'd love to find one of those talked-about $100K NL1/3 tables going at Wynn where 8 players have >$10K. I'd sit with my $500 to $1000 and be the fly on the wall waiting to pick up their scraps. The variance would be brutal, but I'm fine with that.

To another local studded table, including one freak that the dealer knew by name and had THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS behind in cash, and another local had 10k...i knew there was no cap but good god damn 30k at a 1-3...other players included a grizzled local, a few slick asian kids that knew the game, and a dealer from the Wynn playing his day off. Unbelievably bad game selection! This fish will definitely keep sailing in search of less shark infested waters. my .02

I don't think it's all that bad. It's not the greatest, but I've never sat down and seen a great player at the Wynn 1-3 tables. They usually play tighter, but most of them are just tight-passive. Any aggression and it's usually the nuts or AA or whatever. I actually like playing in those games sometimes as you can make a fortune just c-betting with some tables with little to no variance.

Outplaying a tight local nit isn't that hard. So many of them seem to be so absolutely risk averse to the point where it makes me think some of them play off of two or three buy-ins.

If their mentality is to nut peddle, counter it with an appropriate strategy that we wont talk about here.

Fwiw, there's local nits in every room, but right now they're more prevalent b/c poker in Vegas slows down after the series considerably. Go check out the Wynn during next years WSOP and you'll probably wonder how the contrast is so great. Same for Holiday weekends. Game selection FTW man. Game selection FTW.


Also, unless you're operating on a couple hundred bucks, play the 2-5. My favorite game at the Wynn would be a deep 2-5 w/ a straddle. I cant stand slow games with headsup pots, that's why I try and initiate straddles. For me, playing small blinds with huge stacks and live straddles is the best. Something to consider about an uncapped game- if half the table is 400 BB's deep the game turns decidedly post flop and involves many more decisions, as opposed to a game with a high blind/stack size ratio where there's less postflop action, and an uncapped deep game is like the polat opposite of many games you find online right now where there could be three players with <60 BB's at a six man table.


In sum, deep stacks = poker. As for your experience, pick holidays weekends, tournament time, and especially *not* weekdays after the series to play at the wynn. Labor day weekend was fantastic btw.



Also, not all, but a fair number of their dealers are w/o a doubt the best in town. And Sage and Chad run a great floor imo. I just wish that management would listen to the dealers/players/floor, b/c that room could be the best in town and knock bellagio off the map, but it would have to start with politics and end with middle limit hold'em players and games.

I visited the Wynn back in March and waited for a seat for the 15 game for about 30 minutes before I went back to the Bellagio to play the 15 game there. The room did look nice, however they only had 2 15 games going at the time. I went on a Sunday night at about 11:00 pm.

I felt totally out of place in the Wynn casino. All of the non poker players dressed to the nines. I mean like super dressed up for prom night or something. I had on khakis and a long sleeve dress shirt and I still felt underdressed until I got to the poker room.

Once I saw Eskimo Clarke I felt a little more comfortable [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

They use $1 and $3 chips in that game? What's the large denomination used... $27?

I played 5-10 there during april and the games were great. 2 local "pros" that were pretty good, but mostly middle aged investment guys and business owners that had a lot of cash to burn.

Sounds like the 5-10 game I know at Wynn. There's a few ULTRA nitty locals but they are offset by a few ultra aggressive locals who try to boss the table with their deep stacks.
