I don't agree that calling is better than 3betting preflop. You want to 3bet to know if your hand is good or not, you could easily be up against AA or KK here. If we are 4bet preflop we can through away our hand and avoid a difficult descision when a Q or an A hits the flop.

Calling here is WAY better than raising and in fact, I think calling > folding >>> raising, with calling and folding pretty close. This pot has been opened for a considerable overbet (7.5BB) by a perceived tight player in EP, and then there's a smooth call. You dont need to 3-bet here to find out you're not ahead...of course you're not ahead. What's your opponent have? AJ? KQ? Maybe, but not real likely, and almost certainly his entire range is ahead of you. But, if you hit on the flop, you'll be ahead much of the time, and since you have position in the hand, the superior play here is to call, keep the pot small, and play him post-flop. AQ likes a raised pot, but definitely doesn't need to be in a reraised pot unless the opponent is clearly loose.

kinda missed that he overbet preflop.
What if the preflop raise was $8 and a caller. still better to call?

Depends on reads, but a pot-sized open raise from a tight, early-position player demands respect. I probably play the same way. With the pot smaller now heading to the flop however, I'm going to raise a lot of his flop bets if I sense any weakness at all (whether I've hit the flop or not). AK will be his most likely hand, so on a flop without a K in it, he's going to see chips from me. I probably call flop and decide what to do on turn if an A flops. The smaller pot going to the flop will allow you to play aggressively back at him cheaply. Clearly, you likely fold if he 3-bets flop.

LOL...ummmm, win money with the best hand, or something. Take down pot now while TPTK is still good. Feel confident you aren't folding best hand if you get reraised. U want any more reasons?

I like a flop call as well. Given OP's reads at the time, I think a riase folds out just about all worse hands.

I also agree that calling is the best option pf.
