Default College Football Thread

I know College football is still a month and a bit away, but I see no active threads on CF. So lets start one here.

Who do you think is going to play in the Championships? How about some teams that you think have a shot of surprising alot of people? How about Conference champions? Heisman trophy winners (Quinn, Troy Smith, etc)?

I think OU wins the Big 12 this year. It will be close, but I think that without the leadership of VY for TX and a healthy Adrian Peterson/more experienced Bomar, OU will have a great shot at winning the Big 12 from TX. NE has a good shot of winning the Big 12 North IMO with a great defense and more experienced QB in Taylor.

SEC should be a tossup between UGA/FL/Auburn. All three look impressive. I think UF will have a hard time due to its tough schedule.

I've sprinkled a bit of my thoughts on College Football this upcoming year. I personally cant wait till September. Anyone else have any thoughts on this coming Sep?

I think its Brady Quinn's heisman to lose.

Really no clear cut #1 team in pretty much everyone's opinion. Its been cool seeing all the preseason magazines and all the different rankings they have. Ive seen Oklahoma, Auburn, Ohio St, and ND as #1.

Tough season to predict.

Agreed. OSU looks good as well, but both ND and OSU (Ohio State) are heavy on offense/mediocre defense.

I despise Brady Quinn and the rest of the ND team. I guess you either have to love them or hate them.

I'm a UF fan but don't want to get my hopes up...the schedule is tough and despite good recievers/solid QB/great defensive line, I think the chances of UF making a BCS bowl are pretty tough.

Well I love them so here are my thoughts. If ND can get through its first 4 games unscathed (@ GA Tech, Penn St, Michigan, @ Mich St.), they will have a very good chance of playing for the national championship. The last game of the season is against USC, and if ND is undefeated at that point, that game would have some crazy hype leading up to it (like last year). We need to stay injury-free and stop giving up the big plays on defense. Our offense should be absolutely ridiculous though. I can't wait.

This could be a year where a team with one loss goes to the NC, however.

Its hard to be unbiased here, but in my opinion Ohio St. is the #1 right now - they scare me the most.

I'm looking forward to seeing USC's new squad. John David Booty, Fred Davis, and Jeff Byers were all huge recruits from the past and all of them are stepping into big roles. I have no clue who's going to start at running back. It's going to be awesome to see them shine. I'm expecting a Rose Bowl and I wouldn't rule out a championship run, though unlikely.

As good as OSU has been, losing 9 starters off that defense (plus Santonio Holmes) makes it very hard to rank them first. Sure, they have tons of talent, but there's no way 1) there's no dropoff and 2) there aren't growing pains, especially with an early-season trip to Texas. No one really looks invincible this year, though, so you can make a case that Ginn/Smith and Co. are still better than anyone else, but 9 starters...that's a big gap to fill.

Hoping PSU can bring home the Big 10 again, but I think it will be tough with OSU around. Biggest setback for us obviously is losing Robinson and throwing in an untested quarterback, as well as losing alot of experienced Dbacks and Dline, though a great young receiving and linebacking core comeback. I haven't heard alot about Michigan, but they may also be back in the mix if there is still a team around Henne
