Default Learning to play guitar- online resources

My wife just got me a guitar, and I was hoping people could point me in the right direction towards good sites for learning, and also for tab and stuff like that. There seem to be SOO many sites out there, I figured someone here has sorted through the crap and knows a good one. I used to use OLGA for tab back in high school when I wanted to play three bar licks, but seems like the lawyers have gotten to it.

www.guitarnoise.com is, I think, the best online resource. Not only for the lessons, which are great, but also for the very large/active online forum there. I've been an active member there for about 4 years. Very friendly, great place to get help.

Also, look into powertabs - it's tablature but a little different. It comes in a software and plays the tab for you so you know how it sounds, and also has notation, etc.

You should also check out Guitarpro, a better version of powertabs, but I believe they've run into copyright problems with publishing companies.

But yeah, www.guitarnoise.com , come say hello on the forums - I have the same name there as I do here.

Get a few lessons. Seriously, take 3-4 lessons and practice that for a few months / learn on your own. Go back, get a few more lessons and do it again. Even great guitarists go in for lessons from time to time to brush up on scales, chords, apreggio's etc...

You used to be able to get free lessons on YouTube until the RIAA decided to screw that up too.

Buy Guiter pro . It's tab viewing program, which also plays back the music in midi format. You can also create your own tabs so it's great for composing. It costs about 60 euros but is well worth it.
Ultimate Guitar has a lot of tabs on it in both text files and guiar pro format.
