I just don't think the original is something worth being annoyed at if you're just a hack who doesn't care about layup yardages and stuff .

Which 99% of golfers are. Just so happens that the .05% of golfers who aren't hacks, and who also don't have a sense of humor, are posting in this thread (although I have no idea if Evan is a hacker or not).

I think the sign is funny, it's just not a good time for it. I'd think it were funny if the utility company replaced all the traffic lights with TV's showing porn at rush hour. That would also not be a good time for it.

Fwiw, I wouldn't call myself a hacker. I can't seem to score very well lately, but that's largely due to my putting. I'm certainly good enough that I care how far I am from the hole, basically regardless of the distance. I played 27 holes yesterday, made 2 birdies and shot something like 150 probably.

Well I'm playing to about a 12 right now. Maybe if I start paying more attention to distances when I'm 300+ yards out I can shave a few more strokes off of that...

Oops, I meant to type 120, not 150.

I can't tell if your response was sarcastic, given my "I'm good, I shoot 100+" post or if you actually believe paying attention to distances outside 300 will help you, which it obviously will.

Where did I ever say I was good? And where did I say I shoot 100+ (it's probably been 15 years since I've shot over 100)? That being said, I wasn't being completely sarcastic, as paying attention to such things certainly wouldn't HURT my game, however, I have a hard time believing that it of all things would make a huge overall difference in what I score.

Indeed. That was just piss-poor reading comprehension.

Hey_Porter,

I wasn't trying to be a dick when I FYP.

I personally would laugh my ass off if I saw this in the fairway, unless it was a tournament. Otherwise, even if I'm playing a really good casual round, I'll just walk off the yardage. If I'm out shooting average/crappy round, I could care less about the exact yardage to the 100 yard marker.

The only point some of us were trying to make, is that under certain situations (and this will vary depending on the golfer), this could be annoying to see.
