Songs that everyone loves

I'm driving home from work today and "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin comes on the radio. It just made me think of songs that you can't possibly dislike. I'm not sure why I love that song, but I do. I suspect a lot of people like it partly because so many people are crazy about the movie it came from.

Maybe I'm a little crazy but it just seems like there are some songs that almost everyone loves. It doesn't matter what type of music you listen to: country, rock, rap, whatever. It also doesn't seem to matter what type of person you are: age, gender, race, etc.

One place I notice this is in bars. When certain songs come on, a lot of people sing along and they do so loudly. Examples would be "Summer of '69," "Don't Stop Believin'," and "I Want You to Want Me." People love these songs almost invariably. Am I wrong?

I can name 1 person who hates that song... well, actually 2. My buddy was dating this chick that we nicknamed TMBA (Take My Breath Away) because he told us how they would always watch Top Gun and she would say that was their song.

Once he told us this, we ran with it. Anytime she was around, we would sing it at the top of our lungs or blast it on a stereo. It didn't take her long to break things off and both parties hate that song now.

Make it 3. I despise "Take My Breath Away" more than any other song that has been popular since I've been alive and aware of popular music (1975-present).

I think the singer sounds like a cat being tortured. I hate the lyrics, I hate the melody, I hate the stupid love scene it's played over during Top Gun (Tom Cruise licks Kelly McGillis's man face over a blue background). I hate everything about that song.

I think a song that everyone loves is "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll" by Bob Seger. Or maybe "Only The Good Die Young" by Billy Joel.

You play this in any bar, especially if its karaoke, and its gonna pop off. Even though most people only know THAT PART.

i can't think of many people who do like this song. i am not one of them. this is one of those songs i embarrassingly like.
