Why isnt every dealer top notch if it's so hard to get the jobs, and they have so many applicants for every job. If they are only taking the best and most experienced, it seems like vegas would be full of expert dealers which doesnt seem to be the case.

[/ QUOTE ]

There needs to be a position available in order to hire.

And a bunch of the dealers that got on-board during the 2003-04 hiring rush that can't really deal all too well have kept their jobs.

definatly check out henderson to live. you can find a 1000sq ft aprtmnt for anywhere from 800-1000. remember the cheaper you go, the shadier your nieghbors will be! check out a place called Palm Villas on whitney ranch and sunset, i lived there 2 years and payed 975 for 2 bedrm 2 bath with a BIG ass balcony overlooking an awesome pool!! (lot of hot chicks too)
as far as poker rooms and jobs go, check out binions poker room, the floor man Johnny, is a great guy who will give you an audition whenevr he has time to watch you. if you walk up and are personable, theres a good chance he'll give you one on the spot! im pretty sure he works swing shift (2pm to 10pm) roughly he'll prolly hook you up....good luck bro
drop me a line if you want when you get out here, i can try and point you in the right direction for.....well...whatever!

First off stay OUT of underground clubs from now on. A bust could prevent you from getting licensed. Obviously if you have any felonies forget it.

Next you need work history including periods of unemployment for every day of the last ten years. You apply online and they will check EVERYTHING so don't lie. Unfortunately you can't list underground clubs as work history or experience.

There are LOTS of potential pitfalls living in vegas. Look me up when you get here I'll give you my two cents.

Would you care to make some of these pitfalls public knowledge? I'm sure I'm not the only one curious (to boot, I'm considering the ol' Vegas move).

Ok a few.

1. If you don't have a GOOD handle on your gambling habits, don't move here.

2. Safety and security - where to go/where NOT to go, protecting yourself and your money. Vegas is a high crime area, this aint no small town in new hampshire full of rich retirees.

3. Where to live and the driving skituation etc. The drivers here SUCK.

4. How to apply for and keep a job here, and how to deal with living and working in friggin' disneyland corporate hell.

5. Another huge list if you think you're going to be a "pro." My advice on that - it's a very hard way to make an easy living.

There are more but my blind... Gotta go.

Al

This is just out of curiosity but how hard is it to land a job doing something else? If you wanted to be a dealer but there are no openings, could you get another type of job to pay the rent until you can get what you want?

I can't help but think that anyone willing to actually show up on time and work could find a job doing something.

How difficult is it to be a Cabbie? Who washes all those hotel windows?

All these people showing up for the jobs aren't experienced dealers. The good experienced dealers have jobs.

How about temp office work? There have to be a million casino related temp jobs, and then you even get some time in a casino that you can put on your resume. Also, no commitment and you can take time off as needed.

during my 6+ years living vegas i have found that, especially in this town, its WHO YOU KNOW, not WHAT YOU KNOW!!!!! doesnt matter what the job is your looking to land, if you have some one on the inside, you will get in ALOT quicker!! weather it be a dealer, bartender, bellman or cabbie. even if you know someone who knows someone....thats prolly good enough!

also i know alot of people around town in every type job. from police to bartenders to dealers to construction......the list goes on!!!
also f.y.i. this town is in dier need of teachers and nurses!! poker dealers....not so much. but you can prolly find something if your persistant!!
also i dont know anyone who moved here who jot their "dream job" right of the bat, it usually takes a year or two of networking (and by networking i mean drinkin and shaking the hands of well....whoever)
but you will find something to pay the rent in the mean time, and one of these days you'll land something sweet!!
like myself for example, moved here in 2001. worked as a plumber and did contruction at 14-16 bucks an hour (struggling) then in 2003 i met a guy who knew a guy who worked at a casino. (a REALLY REALLY BIG GREEN ONE) and i landed a job making $33.55 an hour, 40 hours a week!!! life is good now. it just takes time.....good luck bro! see ya at the tables
