I have been to Dachau and it was an immensely depressing and moving experience. I am very glad I went. I would like to visit Auschwitz someday as well.

If you have not seen it, I strongly recommend the Spielberg documentary called The Last Days, which is a Spielberg-produced documentary about 5 Holocaust survivors telling their stories. It's really amazing.

I was just there on Saturday. I was wedging in a quick day of sightseeing during a business trip and on a guided bus tour so didn't have any opportunity to really explore. I will say praying at the Wailing Wall was a powerful experience and that the sense of history is overwhelming.

I've been fortunate enough to travel pretty extensively so I've seen a lot of places already but there's so much to see. One exotic place I'd like to go is Antarctica. Other more mundane places include the Piemonte region in Italy, Australia and New Zealand, Scotland, parts of Africa, the Andes, and so on.

What about the sense of danger? In Israel / Jerusalem generally?

The sense of danger is much less than you would think. The country is certainly an armed camp with restaurants and such often having an armed security person in front but people aren't looking over their shoulders living in fear either. I didn't feel threatened and in all truth I was far more worried about being pickpocketed than suicide bombed.
