overhead squats baby

I can't do an overhead squat at all, like not even with the bar, and I can squat bodyweight. Supposedly that's one of the ways you can tell that your shoulders are way behind and in particular the stabilizers (rotator cuff) are way too weak.

i thought that inability to do an overhead squat was more of a flexibility issue for most people?

Thremp, yeah I do face pulls, I've seen them advocated as one of the great shoulder moves most people don't do.

bluef0x, upright rows will destroy your shoulders eventually. I used to do them too. Stop.

Rootabager, etc. that are doing basically big compound moves - maybe I should just ignore all the "expert advice" and stick with this. Do you just tack one of them on to workouts randomly?

Turkish get ups are a really good one.

Usually yea, it's kind of the exercise that identifies exactly whatever is the weakpoint (be it flexibility or strength) in your body tip to toe. Which is why it's so awesome.

I can hold the bar over my head and kinda back like the dude in the picture, but when I start to go down and squat I feel as though I can only bend my knees and not my hips. Is my problem back and ab strength or shoulder flexibility?

Don't practice dislocates or your first OHS with a barbell-- use pvc pipe or a broom handle or something like that.

are dislocates taking a bar (for instance) and make it go from overhead to behind your back?

I'm pretty sure I can do that.
