Re: Rant: People who can\'t spell
[ QUOTE ]
Their are simple spelling mistakes [/ QUOTE ] nh [ QUOTE ] and then there is just completely mispelling a common word. The latter is a bad indication imo [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, not really talking about your/you're type stuff here, although that is often a strong indication of dumbness. I'm talking about completely bizarre misspellings that make no sense, like the example in the OP |

Re: Rant: People who can\'t spell
[ QUOTE ]
I spell very poorly in general. Spell-checker allows me to remain this way with very little concern. My business documents have perfect spelling. Here, it is more a lack of caring. When I post, I am esentially 'talking'. I am more concerned with my thought/point then my spelling. [/ QUOTE ] This is the kind of spelling mistake that isn't such a big deal. At first glance the word looks the way it's supposed to. OP's example of "sopost" is completely different. |

Re: Rant: People who can\'t spell
MIA: I have dyslexia and I'm a way better writer than most people. But I rarely mispell things, because I use spell check and carefully read everything I care about. Your friend thought that she didnt nead to spell check something casual that she was sending you. So your question should be more: Why don't people care enough to use spell check sometimes?
Either way, you are medium sized nit. --AG |

Re: Rant: People who can\'t spell
Using spell check on an e-mail to a friend would actually be fairly nitty, imo.

Re: Rant: People who can\'t spell
I seriously cant imagine your friend thought supposed was really spelled sopost. Most likely, she used it because it is two letters shorter, just like some people use nite instead of night.
If you are convinced she really thinks supposed is spelled that way, she very likely is an idiot. |

Re: Rant: People who can\'t spell
Most bad spellers and people with bad grammar read very little. I think this is the major issue. If you read on a regular basis (I'm talking Newspapers, Magazines, and Books) you tend to have good grammar and spelling.
Some people choose to be lazy, and don't bother correcting their mistakes. Some are dyslexic, or have other problems that cause their spelling to suffer. Most are just stupid and don't practice/read enough. |

Re: Rant: People who can\'t spell
mia,
I'm one of those retarded engineers who can't spell (exercise gets me all the time.. how pathetic is that?). Firefox has helped some. I'm not a very good writer, either. However, I agree with you, on all accounts. I work with a lot of foreigners so I've gotten somewhat used to it, but some of the specs I read through are atrocious. It really detracts from the quality of the work. |
