Rant: People who can\'t spell
Been meaning to make a post about this for a while, and was reminded by yet another horrible misspelling in another thread.
What's up with people who just can't spell? I know a bunch of otherwise pretty intelligent, educated people who are horrible spellers. I got an e-mail the other day from a good friend who just got a graduate degree from an engineering program at a good school. In it, she wrote, "I'm sopost to fly to England on the 20th." "Sopost" instead of "supposed." I mean, seriously, how is it possible after 25 years in an English-speaking country to think that word is spelled that way? That's just one example; I see stuff like that every day in posts on here, documents at work, etc. I just honestly don't understand how spelling isn't ingrained in your mind from a young age. Do that many people really never read books, newspapers or magazines? I know there will be some who will want to respond calling me a nit, saying it doesn't really matter as long as your audience knows what you're talking about. Well, no, as far as conveying the information at hand, it doesn't matter much, but as far as you not looking like a complete idiot, yeah, it's pretty [censored] important. Not being able to spell makes you look like a careless person who doesn't pay enough attention to the world around you to learn correct spellings. In conclusion: Please teach your children how to spell correctly and use proper grammar. It will help them not look like morans.

Miajag,
I used to be a really good speller, but I've gotten a lot worse as I've gotten older. And I don't care what anyone says, taking latin and greek is not good for me and has ruined my english grammar.
