I have never lost anyone close to me to suicide, but I don't think it's funny. A lot of people have had loved ones commit suicide, so there is no good reason to say something like that.

I mean if everything goes according to plan, and the person you say it too has no personal stories involving suicide, what is the best reaction you can get from saying it?

Ultimately, saying something like this is -EV because the best conclusion is kinda meh, and the worst thing is that you hurt someone that you care about (b/c I assume that you wouldn't say it to a complete stranger).

I find it unfunny not on principle or offensiveness, but just somewhat uninteresting. A much better response in nearly all instances would be "Eat a Dick" as it implies that your friend is a homosexual, which is nearly always funny.

I don't think it's very funny, but I don't think it's very offensive either (at least to me). If someone I cared about actually did commit suicide, I would likely be more upset.

i just wanna reiterate, i agree w/ the last 3 guys.. it's not offensive to me at all, and i don't think it would be even if i had experience with a suicide in the family or whatever.. maybe but i don't think so.. i just am against it purely because of unfunniness.

This seems kind of weird to me. I don't think I would have found it funny at all when I was 14, and probably would have been offended, or at least acted offended.

It can be funny in specific situations where it applies. Example:

The generic "kill yourself" response really isn't that funny.

And I realize my example sucks cause like, who the [censored] takes a belt, but you get the idea.

1) Im also in the just not funny camp

2) I dont concern myself often with whether things are offensive but I do try to avoid be hurtful unless I want to be. Having known people who have been affected by suicide , I know this could be hurtful to them and others and for that reason I avoid it
