I think cbetting here would be horrible against a 47/6 unless his raising his somehow skewed and he limps JJ+. This would be a pretty easy check against a 12/6 so where is the difference?

Betting the turn is absolutely horrible. Either bet flop or check it down. Both have their merits depending on what you think his range is here.

Why? The majority of the time villain has a pp and is trying to hit a set. They aren't really hand reading at all and will fold to a turn bet just as often as a flop bet. I think everytime I've checked down in a spot like this villain ends up showing 44 and I feel like an idiot.

44 isn't folding to a turn bet

If you say so. I would typically just bet this flop but I just feel like if villain goes into the hand thinking "set value" it doesn't really matter when you bet.

edit: and if you really think 44 isn't folding to a turn bet why don't we just autocheck ever flop with an overpair, bet turn, shove river and get snapcalled by fifth pair?

Ya I find I get looked up sooooo light when I bet the turn in spots like this. Checking it down is fine.

Check down is fine, I never ever bet this flop without some good read that he folds to a lot of cbets. This is one of the absolute worst flops to ever want to cbet on, 2bet or 3bet pot.

in my experience, checking the flop in a hand like this and betting the turn you get called by nearly any pair.
