I just bought a 1995 monark about 2 months ago. I fish about 1-2 times a week so I couldn't wait to save up to buy one. It's 14'6" w/ 25hp mariner, 36# TM. The most people I have had on it was 2 and I think that 3 would just be too many. When I'm alone it's perfect because I can launch/trailer by myself in just a min or 2.

I wanted a Carolina Skiff but I couldn't find one in Arizona, and the nearest dealership was northern Cali I think.

They do cost a lot. I have had to buy many little things for it that added up to about 1k already and I only paid 3,700 for the boat. Registration, insurance, broken trailer light, hitch, new tiedown straps, lights for night fishing, and a few others.

My next boat will be at least 17', but for my first one I love it.

Seriously though, growing up all I wanted was a Boston Whaler, killer boat for fishing. If I didn't live in the city, I would definitely have one of these. Buy it and enjoy it.

How often do you really use your boat?

[/ QUOTE ]

Though enjoyable, really not that often.

Is my level of enthusiasm towards to boat really going to last? Probably only a question I can answer but I think a lot of people might get the 'boating' bug and then lose it a year later.

[/ QUOTE ]

hit or miss, I'd say you'll have that "boat burnout" aspect but its hard to say how into it you'll be without knowing how serious you are about it/your personality/the actual boat and environment/etc...

I recommend fried chicken and fishing...its pretty sweet. Good luck.

Dude, if you are going cruise Newport Harbor, then just get a Duffy Boat and come up with a funny name so they'll put it on the sign.

I would not buy a Whaler. You're concerned with whether or not your enthusiasm will last, so why buy literally the most expensive boat in that class? Also that whaler would not be fishable for more than 2 people.

I have a 14 ft carolina skiff with a 15 horse evinrude 4 stroke. I used to use it for fishing, but since college started I haven't used it at all. For me it was always a way to go fishing and not really good for cruising around or anything else.

Generally small boats that are designed for fishing are center consoles. CCs allow for more fishability because there's more standing room/free space.

A couple other models which definitely will allow for better fishing while being waaaay cheaper are:

Maritime Skiff model 1480 and Triumph model 150 cc.

If you're looking for something you can get quickly and cheaply, PM me because I need cash and would be willing to sell mine. I'm in the Boston area.

Edit: Saw "Newport" and thought Rhode Island.
