Safety of walking from Palms to Rio
Just a question. Is it safe to walk to and from Palms to Rio at night with large sums of money?

Re: Safety of walking from Palms to Rio
i did that cab ride twice and the both drivers were pissed at me. they both said why cant you walk? its actually not a bad walk if you go out the parking garage at Rio and cut through the Gold Coast. On the other hand it still will take you at least 15 mins. dont know why the drivers were mad.
ive carried alot of cash on before. just act normal no one will notice (unless you dress like your rich or something) |

Re: Safety of walking from Palms to Rio
Probably the cab drivers were mad because they had been waiting in line at the hotel for a fare, and the short ride is not worth the wait. For that reason, in general you should overtip on short cab rides where the driver was in a queue at the pickup point. For example, on a $5.25 fare I'd generally give $8 total.
Of course, if the driver does something rude like ask why you didn't walk, he shouldn't get a tip at all. |

Re: Safety of walking from Palms to Rio
God... Palms is like right across from the Rio... as 2nd poster said... just go out, through the Garage at the Gold Coast... walk through the GC, make some BJ bets on the way, grab a drink, come out the front door and cross the street. There you go. Getting a cab from Rio to Palms is basically like taking one from the Rio to the GC.

Re: Safety of walking from Palms to Rio
If someone attempts to rob you, just start telling them a bad beat story. They'll scram....fast. Make sure it's a really good one like "this one time I had pocket aces and...."
On the other hand, an actual tip that I got from a buddy of mine who lives in Vegas said that he was walking somewhere by the casinos (I'm not familiar with the area) and some guy came up and tried to rob him (he had about 3 grand on him) and my buddy just started freaking out and screaming at him and yelling about how he just lost 10 grand and he didn't have any cash for anyone else let alone himself. He actually scared the guy away for how crazy he was acting. Just a thought in case something happens. |

Re: Safety of walking from Palms to Rio
Like others have said, it's close to the Rio. I don't have knowledge of the general safety of the area, as I've just been driving to and from the Rio every day, but I'm guessing it's not bad, but less safe than the Strip. Generally, I feel safer on the Strip because there are so many people around.
If you want to make the walk, it will be fairly quick and easy. Just use caution like you would walking around in any relatively unknown area. Walk with some friends if you can. |
