BTW, I'm sure I've been berated by Wooly Chicken on at least one occasion. I think I pushed once with a board of AKQJT, no flush possible. I had an ace, and when the ace gave everyone the nuts on the river, I just kept on betting. One good togue lashing from Wooly Chicken straightened me out though.

You should have typed "I had top kicker so I had to bet"

I will always make a play like this on the river in this type of situation.

Plus, I was under the impression that split pots aren't raked.

Depends on the site I think. To be safe, just check the HH in PT afterward to confirm.

After calling you, I would berate you for making me lose money with the nuts

[/ QUOTE ]

First off, he didn't MAKE you call, it was your decision. Secondly, berating is idiotic, why do you want to tell others how to play better against you? You don't like money? You probably berate anyone who outdraws you when they shouldn't even have called your bet, you don't want people to make bad calls against you? Telling someone how to play better at your table is bigtime -EV. Think about it.

Garon

P.S. - I don't mind helping people here, but if they were sitting at my table no way would I ever help them play better. Instead I reinforce their bad play! Which do you think has better EV?

Actually, if you think your opponents understand game theory then you should do this every time because they should fold, even with an ace. If the additional rake is greater than the amount in pot before your bet, then calling has a negative expectation.

Of course, most of the opponents I usually play against couldn't apply game theory to Tiddley Winks

[/ QUOTE ]

But what if they keep calling you everytime? Would you keep doing it, costing you both money? If it stops you from doing it, then..

It's kind of like Prisoner's dilemna. Sort of.

I see no reason to fold. Losing the few bucks to the juice will outweigh the times when someone pushes with a K, or they paired one of the other board cards paired because they're an idiot and think they're good.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think this is why this exactly would have been better if the board was:

4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Pokey,

I'm not folding an ace there. Too often this move is some idiot with a king trying to buy the pot. Pushing in obviously split pots is -EV when the rake is not negligible.
