Default Dual screen setup with a Widescreen and a 4:3

Hello

Just a quick question here. I've bought a new widescreen monitor (not really for poker so much) and I'm trying to set it up in dual display with my old 19in 4:3 tft. My graphics card is native dual monitor so I have them both plugged in to that, BUT...

I cant seem to run different resolutions on the respective monitors when using them in dual mode. The widescreen is 1680x1050 native, and the 19in is a standard 4:3.

Does anyone know of a way that I can stretch the desktop across the two monitors and have them both at independent resolutions? I've looked all over Google with no success. I realise buying a second PCI graphics card is an option, but I'd be interested to know if there's a simpler way first.

Thanks

i think it is more basic that what you think.

right click on desktop - click on properties - click on the "settings" tab - click on your second monitor - click on "extend my desktop to this monitor" button.

(i assume you're using windows xp - vista is almost identical, but "display settings" rather than properties)

Yeah, I thought this would be easy. What happens when it doesn't work? Is it distorted on one screen? Can you change their resolutions independently in properties?

Maybe you have some funky drivers for the video card. What kind of card is it?

I have two Dell 20's, one wide screen and one not. I have both hooked to my ATI card (one VGA, one DVI) and just used the ATI s/w to set them up. Windows will do it for you too though. So I am running two different resolutions on them.

I don't have the desktop stretched, just have the main screen on my 2007FP and the 2001WFP is just a plain screen with my background on it. Don't have the taskbar stretched to it.

[/ QUOTE ]I think most people who use this phrase are new to the idea of multiple monitors, and call using 2 monitors with 1 computer "stretching", not any distortion and not necessarily extending the taskbar.
