Default QQ Turn Check

10/20 online.

unknown limps UTG, an unknown raises in the CO, i 3bet Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] on the button, the blinds and the limper drop. HU to the flop.

Flop(8.5sb): 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

CO checks, i bet and he calls.

Turn(6.25bb): A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

he checks and i check.

River(6.25bb): 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

he bets and i call.

this line is different than my typical play. what are your thoughts on playing it this way versus my other alternatives?

Personally, I have no problem with this line against an unknown, though I'm sure many people on this forum will. I also have no clue how 10/20 online plays.

Against any A, we lose the minimum and we get to showdown vs. an unknown. We also lose the minimum if villain has gotten cute w/ KK, TT, 88, etc.

Personally, I couldn't fold to a turn c/r from an unknown in this spot.

Against any worse hand, we may have picked up a bet that we wouldn't have otherwise (99, 77, 66) or induced a bluff from KQ, KJ, QJ, etc.

While we probably missed a bet from KT, QT, or JT, it's more likely he has an ace in his hand than a T. So I like the defensive line here.

I totally cool with this - especially if villian is a tricky/aggressive player.

isn't this the standard line for getting to showdown cheaply?

I b/f the turn for a free showdown.

What was your reason for just checking?

Only way to play it dude.

What are you gonna do...bet/call and then raise the river? I might but not with something like QQ. I would with AK and maybe a hand like KQs that missed a flush draw. Your hand has some showdown value and a free card shouldn't be much of a factor (you might be behind and he has very few outs when he is behind). Really the only reason to stab is if he has KK. It seems pretty doubtful that he holds that hand.

How is it more cheap than betting the turn if we plan on folding to a raise?

Is the average unknown 10/20 player tricky/aggressive?

There are reasons for checking but it also gives hands like KJ a free card to beat us.

Standard.

I'm trying and trying and trying to think of a reason to bet this turn against an unknown, and I can't. It seems to me like every time you bet here he either folds or check/raises, and if for some reason he does decide to check/call with a hand like AQ, you're probably not getting it checked to you on the river anyway.
